Christmas Island is located in Indian Ocean. It has an area of 135 square kilometres. This island of Australia is famous all over the world. Today, this island is known for its red crabs, with a population of about 120 million red crabs. Located in the Indian Ocean, this Christmas Island has been identified by these crabs all over the world. But these crabs would not visible to you for the whole year. These crabs can be seen in large amounts during the months of October and November. Because during this time they travel towards the Indian Ocean from the forest. At this time, there are just crabs all around the island. However, residents here get troubles for a few days due to these crabs. These crabs go towards this island for reproduction every year and it is said that during this time their number is so high that they can be seen even from the forest to the house, the restaurant, the bus stop and walking on the streets. That is why, this island is also known as crab Island. This island was discovered in 1643. It is said that this island was came into existence because of the volcano eruption. Captain William Mynors of the Royal Mary, an English East India Company vessel, named the island when he sailed past it on Christmas Day, in 1643. Christmas Island has a population of 1,843 residents as of 2016.
Not one or two, but on this island red crabs of 14 species are found. Experts tell them to be around 120 million. The Red Crab is up to 11.6 centimeters in length. Their color is mostly bright red. Red Crabs can not stay on the Island for long time because Crazy Yellow Ants attack on them. Yellow Crazy Ants (Yellow Ants) kill several million red crabs every year. Christmas Island red crabs are rather large crabs with the carapace measuring up to 116 millimetres wide. The male crabs are generally larger than the females, while adult females have a much broader abdomen and usually have smaller claws. Bright red is their most common color, but some can be orange or the much rarer purple. About 63 percent of this island is safe as the Australian National Park. These crabs travel from the forest of one end of the Christmas Island to the Indian Ocean, which is located on the other end. This Island is in the 52 square miles area, whereas the population here is said to be about two thousand people. But due to these crabs, a large number of people come here to see them. This island is known only for Island Red Crabs.
