Jwala Devi Temple is situated 30 kilometers away from Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh. This Temple is located on the high hills in the village called Jwalamukhi. This temple is also known as the Jwalamukhi Temple. The temple of Jwala Devi is one of the 51 Shakti peethas of Goddess. It is included in the main shrines of Hindu religion. The shrine is regarded as a Maha Shakti Peetham. All Shakti Peethas are shrines of Devi. It is believed that here Goddess Sati's tongue fell down. This temple is unique in comparison to other temples of Goddess, because there is no worship of idols here, but nine flames which come out from the crevices of the rock are worshiped. The primary construction of this temple was done by Raja Bhumi Chand. Later on Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Raja Sansar Chand had completed the structure of this temple in 1835.
History
During the era of Satyuga, Raja Bhumi Chand saw a dream that Goddess Sati's tongue has fallen to this place. After some time, a man of his state informed him that there is a flame which is constantly burning, after which he constructed the temple of Goddess Jwala ji at that place. They considered this light to be Goddess and named it Jwala. After the construction of the temple in place of flame, the king called two Pandits and entrusted them with responsibility for the operation of this temple. However, there is another story of Jwala Devi Temple which is related to Emperor Akbar. During Akbar's reign, he tried to take the test of the power of Goddess Jwala. But Goddess Jwala had completely destroyed Akbar's arrogance.
A Small Story about this Temple
It is said that when Lord Shiva was roaming around with the dead body of Goddess Sati. Then seeing this situation of Shiva, all the Gods came to Lord Vishnu and asked him to end this pain of Shiva. In order to overcome the worries of the Gods, Lord Vishnu made 51 pieces of the body of the Goddess Sati with his Sudarshana Chakra. After this, where the parts of the body of Goddess Sati fell, the Shakti Peethas of the Goddess were established in those places. The name of Jwala Devi is also included in the 51 Shakti Peethas of the Goddess. Goddess Sati's tongue fell on this place. Here the Goddess Sati's tongue is worshiped as a light flame. It is believed that these flames have been burning like this for many years. Apart from this, eight other tiny flames are also burn here, which are worshiped in nine forms of Mahakali, Annapurna, Vindhyavasani, Mahalaxmi, Chandi, Saraswati, Ambika etc.
In Hindu religion, it is believed that Goddess Jwala fullfills everyone's desires. Special worship of the Goddess are done in nine days of Navratri. It is believed that any person who worships in Navratri with full devotion, there is no crisis in his house.
